This week, the students in Stephanie Cox's Health Services class at Cascade High School have been getting amazing hands-on experience for what it is like to be an EMT!
They've practiced intubating (with real pig lungs to see what happens inside the body, no pictures to save the squeamish), held pig hearts, and today are practicing inserting an IV and even drilling to insert medicine into bone marrow.
Thanks so much to Turner Fire Department for coming out all week!

Last Friday, the district celebrated Maestro!
Since 1999, Jean-Marie Van Bronkhorst has been a music teacher in Cascade Schools. He's taught at every level and in every building and has impacted countless students.

On May 18th, we celebrated National Speech Pathologist Day, and we are incredibly fortunate to have three outstanding speech-language pathologists at Cascade School District! Their dedication, compassion, and expertise make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students every day.
Thank you Julie Peacock, Wendy Smith, and Joy Medlock for the vital work you do to support communication, confidence, and learning across our schools!

Meet our amazing senior baseball players who’ve brought heart, hustle, and leadership to the field this season.
|
Carter Condon: Carter has been playing baseball for 12 years. After graduation, he plans to begin an apprenticeship with Top Grade Plumbing and work toward becoming a professional plumber. His favorite memory is the Arizona spring break tournament during his sophomore year—sunshine, great competition, and unforgettable time with his teammates.
Hunter Dwyer: Hunter has been dedicated to baseball for the past nine years. After graduation, he plans to attend Chemeketa Community College to study fire suppression and pursue a career in firefighting. His favorite memory isn’t a single moment, but all the hard work he’s put in over the years—the long hours, the grit, and the growth.
|
Brody Copple: Brody has been with the program for two years and has made the most of every inning. After high school, he will attend Chemeketa Community College. His favorite memories are the late nights after practices and games, sharing laughs and stories with his teammates
Nicholas Rife: Nicholas started playing baseball back in T-ball and never looked back. After high school, he plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. His favorite memory is spending the 4th of July camping and riding ATVs at the dunes with the team.
|
Conrad Baxter: Conrad has been a proud member of our Cascade Baseball program for one season. After graduation, Conrad plans to pursue a career as an electrician, bringing the same focus and dedication to his trade as he has to our team. His favorite baseball memory is riding in the back of the bus, swapping stories and laughs with teammates. |
We love hosting our whole community for a fun day!

On Wednesday, Cascade Junior High School had the pleasure of welcoming incoming 6th graders from all three elementary schools for a campus tour.
During their visit, students heard from current 6th graders, Mrs. Leday, and the school counselors, who shared insights into the exciting opportunities that await them as middle schoolers.

The 2025 Salem Kids Relays took place this past Saturday and Aumsville Elementary runners started the day with the 3rd grade boys team winning first place and ended the day with the 5th grade mixed team winning first place.
When the day ended, Aumsville left with a lot of blue ribbons. For the first time, Aumsville entered two Unified Teams and both teams won 2nd place. It was great to see all their smiling faces when they received their ribbons. We had a mixed Mayor’s Team that earned 4th place and worked extremely hard for that finish. You can see more pictures on our Facebook page.
The support that Aumsville got from their coaches, teachers, and administrators was truly amazing and noticed by the other teams. The 3rd grade team also got some extra coaching by former Aumsville Panther and current defending 4A state champion Lilly Pickett. The runners took all of her knowledge and used them to sweep all 3rd grade races with blue ribbons. It was a Great Day to be a Panther!!
3rd Grade- Boys 1st Place, Girls 1st Place, Mixed 1st Place
4th Grade- Boys 2nd Place, Girls 3rd Place, Mixed 3rd Place
5th Grade- Boys 2nd Place, Girls 1st Place, Mixed 1st Place
Mayor’s Mile- Mixed 4th Place
Unified Race- Team #1 2nd Place, Team #2 2nd Place

Thursday was an Outdoor School reunion during lunch at Cascade Junior High School! The counselors came over and got to reunite with campers and lead some singing.
|
Our Cascade Junior High School leadership and AVID students cleaned and spruced up the Aumsville Cemetery today in their annual service project.
It’s always an invaluable learning and serving experience, connecting our students to those in our community who have passed on. We also put American flags on the graves of our military men and women in remembering them in honor of this upcoming Memorial Day.

Cascade Community!
During March and April, Cascade Schools brought an excellent group of community members, parents, and staff to help develop a long range plan for the facilities of Cascade School District. BBL Architects and R&C Management offered professional expertise in leading these meetings. Their assessment work discovered that we have maintained our facilities well, but their age means there are many needs in our facilities, alongside of a growing student population.
The committee toured schools and reviewed all the assessments to prioritize needs. The state of Oregon does not provide finances for school district facilities, only the annual operating budget. Therefore, the only way to do anything major is to put a Construction Bond on the ballot.
The committee is drafting its final recommendation for the highest need projects. We would like your input on what you see as the most important needs, since we will be unable to meet them all.
