Format
Each course includes 16-17 class meetings from 6:00-8:00 pm at Cascade High School (10226 Marion Road SE, Turner OR 97392) in the Vocational building. Students are required to do six 2 hour drives in the Salem metro area with a partner from class and the teacher. The drives are scheduled no more than once a week, ONLY on the weekend, and are intentionally scheduled to occur on the same day and time.
Perks: State law waives the DMV drive test and written test for students who successfully complete the course.
Cost: $250 (or $175 for free/reduced meals student); Out of District students are charged $350 (or $275 for free/reduced meals student.)
Timelines: Students must NOT get their license before the end of the Driver Education class, or they will be required to pay up to an additional $210 to cover the lost reimbursement from the Oregon Department of Transportation. The state approves our program. Completion requires 30 classroom seat hours, six hours driving/six hours observing, five hours drive log, and 80% on class work.
Commitment: Each student must commit to all classes and all drives. Driver Education must be at the top or near the top priority for the duration of the class. Plan other activities, classes, camps, vacations, etc., with Driver Ed in mind. Students are required to be present in the classroom a minimum of 30 of the up to 35 hours scheduled or they will not pass the course. This is state law and there is no wiggle room.
Registration: You must email Mr. McEwen an interest letter: [email protected]
