Driver's Education Classes

Driver's Education Classes
Posted on 09/26/2023

Due to an instructor shortage, we are currently only offering classes for Cascade School District students only. This policy will change as soon as another instructor can be hired. Since we are actively pursuing this hire, please check back with us regularly for updates if you are an out of district student.

Students are only eligible for registration if they are under 18 years old and already have a Driver’s Permit.

For classes during the school year, class times are in the evenings.  Each course includes 16-17 class meetings, 2 hours each class, and 6 two-hour drives.

Parent meeting is required by the state—both attend that meeting: Parent and Student.

Classes meet 2 or 3 nights a week (during the day in the summer) for two hours each at Cascade Opportunity Center (11463 W Stayton Rd SE, Aumsville, OR 97325) with drives on the weekend and possibly after school at Cascade High School (10226 Marion Rd SE, Turner, OR 97392).

Spring 2024:  Class is full and registration is closed.
Summer 2024:  (June-July) Registration is open.

Priority acceptance into classes is based on:

  1. Application filled out and handed in and payment made.
  2.  Application filled out and turned in.

State law waives the DMV drive test for students who successfully complete a driver's ed course.

Cost:  $250 or $175 (for free/reduced meals student)

Timelines:  Students must NOT get their license before the end of Driver Ed or they will be required to pay up to an additional $210 to cover the lost reimbursement from the Oregon Department of Transportation. We are approved by them to do this.  Completion requires 30 seat hours, 6 hours driving/6 hours observing, 5 hours drive log, 80% on class work.

Commitment:  Each student must commit to all classes and all drives.  Driver Education must be at the top or near the top priority for the duration of the class.  Plan other activities, classes, camps, vacations, etc., with Driver Ed in mind.  Thanks!

TO REGISTER:  You must email Mr. McEwen an interest letter.
